Can't use TWAIN driver with scanner in Windows 8.1

I've just installed Desktop 10 and Windows 8.1 Pro. I have a seven year-old HP Photosmart C6180 AIO, which I have installed on both the Windows and OS X sides.

I'm able to print from both Windows and OS X, but I'm having a lot of trouble with the scanner in Windows. It isn't showing up as a scanner in Devices and Printers. I'm using Paperport 14, and sometimes it acknowledges the TWAIN driver, but most of the time it doesn't and I have to use the WIA driver.

I've tried various permutations of the recommended settings - bridged Ethernet adapter, "Add all Mac printers", etc. - but nothing seems to work.

Somewhere (on Parallels' website, I think), I came across a statement to the effect that some older printers/scanners won't work with Desktop. Is that the case here, or is there a setting I'm missing?

I should mention I'm on a MacBook Pro Retina 13.3" running OS X Yosemite.
