I have a MacBook Pro early 2015 13" retina model. I have a Windows 8.1 VM that runs perfectly on it. However, I just setup a Mac VM and the screen quality is horrible. I tried enabling Retina options as well as increase the video memory for the VM and that didn't help. Child windows don't draw right and I'll have issues where the screen starts painting as I move the mouse cursor across it, the minimize/maximize/close buttons don't render right away, and screens freeze and are slow to respond.

I figured it out. The VM tools weren't installed on the guest VM.
