I just purchased Parallels 10 and went to install it. It says that my virtual machines will be removed. Why is that?? I have 7 virtual machines (including
BootCamp). I do not want to have to redo them. How do I install this program and keep my virtual machines?? If anyone knows how to do this, your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi WakkoWarner, please try to locate the pvm file manually. To locate manually, Open Finder >> Documents >> Parallels >> PVM files.
You can try to find the other way, launch Parallels Desktop >> File >> New >> Add Existing Virtual Machine.

I know where they are located. The problem is that Parallels 10 wants to DELETE them when I go to upgrade my existing Parallels 9 installation. I need to know how to prevent Parallels 10 from deleting my virtual machines. Can I move the virtual machines to another folder, install Parallels 10, then move the VMs back?? I do not want them deleted.

    Hi WakkoWarner,
Updating Parallels with the new version , will update Parallels Desktop and Parallels Tools within each Virtual Machine , it will not remove your Virtual Machine(s).
As you have stated that you have a Virtual Machine based on your Boot camp partition , if you would like to have a back-up of your Virtual Machine , Import Windows and your data from Boot Camp into Parallels Desktop as in the Knowledge base article http://kb.parallels.com/112941 , then you can have a copy of the Windows.pvm bundle on to an external drive to have a back-up of your Virtual machine.
Please refer Knowledge base article http://kb.parallels.com/117333 to locate Windows.pvm bundle(s).
After taking a Backup , you can update Parallels Desktop to latest version and after the update, just in case if you have an issue , you can use the Backup.

So the installer will not remove or delete my virtual machines?? Why does it say it will remove them??

  6. Hi @WakkoWarner, correct, the installer will not remove your virtual machines, all of them will be saved in Finder >> Documents >> Parallels >> pvm files.
But we need to investigate the issue with the strange Parallels installer behavior. Could you provide us with the screenshot of the "error" message and the Problem report ( using the knowledge base article http://kb.parallels.com/en/9058 ) once the issue reoccurs and let us know the Problem report ID.
