Hey all, I've been searching the forums posts but can't find the specific answers to my question. I have a customer running an older MacBook Air (2011 model 4,2) with OSX 10.7.5 and Parallels 7 with an XP Pro VHD that he uses to run an older piece of software. I want to upgrade him to OSX 10.10 Yosemite (and eventually 10.11 El Capitan, if possible) so I will need to upgrade his Parallels to 11 first. However, all the literature says it will only upgrade from 8 and above. Is this just for the "upgrade" pricing? I don't care about that and will gladly pay the full price. I just want to know if the Parallels version 7 VHD will open and be upgraded if I install Parallels 11. If not, can I do an interim demo install of 9 or something and then put in the paid version version of 11? Thanks in advance for any advice/answers.
Hi, the upgrade from 8 and above means the price, so you will be able to download the Parallels Desktop 11 and install it on your Mac OS El Capitan without any issue. Also all of you virtual machine which you used with Parallels Desktop 7 will be saved and you will be able to run it with the Parallels Desktop 11 application.
This question has come up a few times and I'm trying to find an answer- I have OS X 10.8.5. Parallels 7 To upgrade to a newer OS X, I need to first upgrade Parallels. (So got the $49.99 upgrade deal- which I may have to return and buy full version- other story...) BUT, I can't begin installing Parallels update because the installer requires OS X 10.9 or later. What to do? What to do? Won't the gentleman above have the same issue? Maria says he'll have no problem. Does this mean 1. leave older parallels un-upgraded, 2. upgrade OSX to latest, then 3. upgrade parallels? Will this break the VM? Over the last year Parallels software has repeatedly popped up warning DO NOT UPDATE OSX before first updating Parallels. Anything? Please explain- thank you.
