    Hello,

I have an issue with DNS resolution when on shared networking, and using default automatic configuration of the network card.
This using PD11 on El Capitan with Windows 7 guest OS.

When I try to resolve www.microsoft.com it works, but outlook.office365.com fails.
And a few minutes later, it's the opposite, outlook.office365.com resolves fine but not www.microsoft.com.
This occurs also on other domain names. Even www.google.com failed to resolve once.

Parallels support says that it's not covered by support and that I should use a fixed IP and suggested me to enter OpenDNS servers manually instead of using automatic configuration.
But this doesn't make sense to me... I've been using that basic VM (Windows 7 + Office) since version 7 of Parallels Desktop and I have upgraded every year to PD8 / PD9 / PD10 and now PD11 - but only with the latest version I get this issue (and it started the minute I upgraded to PD11). And my network hasn't changed (I'm at home behind a very standard cable router).
So it seems *directly* related to PD11, unlike what I'm being told.

Anyone has a clue on how to investigate/fix, please?
    Thanks.

    Hi,

It looks like it is an issue in the Parallels Desktop 11, which should be fixed in the nearest updated. As a workaround try to use the site https://portal.office.com or enter some opendns servers manually. Sorry for the inconvenience

    Hi Elric,

I heard that a "true" workaround consists in editing this file:
    /Library/Preferences/Parallels/network.desktop.xml

    and adding this entry:
    <NatDNSFilterIPv6Replies>0</NatDNSFilterIPv6Replies>
    to the
    <NATServer>
    section.

    Can you confirm?
    I'm about to try this.

PS: portal.office.com won't work from Outlook. It needs to connect to outlook.office365.com
So that's not really a workaround (nor would you be able to suggest something else for google.com or microsoft.com)

Yes, it is really so. Some routers repack dns-messages in a bit unexpected way for Parallels. This will be fixed in the nearest update.
Let me know if you need help with editing the configuration file..
