Technical assistance sorted out a problem with regards my memory card and now my iMac won't see my external hard drive which is plugged in to the usb socket at the back of my iMac. Tech assistance is saying this is mac problem and can't/won't help. Before the issue with the memory card, the hard drive was working fine but now it's disappeared. I have tried taking the usb plug out and reconnecting the external HD but nothing. I am not proficient at all with the mac but reasonably good with windows........ can anyone help me get the iMac to ''see'' my external hd again (in laymans parlance!)
    Many thanks

    Seems fair enough.
So you better tell us what you mean by "memory card" and what was the issue?

when I inserted an SD memory card in to the slot on the side of my iMac...it would not be recognised in windows....it was only visible on the mac. (usually when I put a memory card into the slot I get a pop-up asking if I want to connect to the mac or to windows)
I contacted technical assistance who took control of my iMac. The technician did various things, restarted windows a couple of times and said everythng was now ok.
That was true cos I could see the memory card appearing on the windows side of the iMac........ but the external hard drive (connected via usb) was not now visible in 'my computer' on the windows side of the iMac. I contacted technical assistance again, who checked what the previous techician had done and said that this 'new' problem was a problem on the mac side and that I was to contact apple support to get this sorted. I have no idea what the original techician did on my pc, but do remember him/her reinstalling parallels tools again at some point. I am not a proficient user on my iMac and tend to use windows all the time. It seems that whatever was done has done something to the iMac's ability to ''see'' my external hard drive. I have tried unplugging the HD and plugging it back in to the USB port but nothing happens

I have just unplugged the power supply to the external HD and re-inserted it........and I have just got the pop-up asking where i would like to attach it!.....so this now seems sorted!
Anyone got any ideas why the support TELEPHONE number for the UK has not been working for over a week now?
I have used this number before for assistance but now will not connect (have tried from a landline and a mobile phone) and the number I have is +44 (0)20 3608 9968
