I had some problems installing Quicken 2016 under Parallels 11 / Windows 10. This seems to be related to the Display settings (or behaviour). When I installed Quicken 2016, the Installer window was somehow deformed, and the text in the display windows looked very small. I managed to get through the install, but it was a bit of a struggle. Once Quicken was installed, it had problems. The first time I used it, it seemed like the application had trouble displaying text, and then it would crash with a generic warning. I could not get past this point. I tried re-converting my data, and it seemed to work, but the text looks all wrong and quite ugly. Text is jagged or too big and icons and graphics are the wrong size. I'm not sure if this is related, but I've also noticed that when I change the Display Settings under System, they are reset by Windows after a restart. Weird. I reinstalled Parallel Tools, but that didn't seem to help. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.
Hello Dave, Is the issue occurring only with Quicken application ? , Please try the below work around and see how it goes 1. Follow this article and see if disabling or enabling retina display fixes the issue. 2. Also follow this article to fix Windows based applications issue with retina display.
Thanks, Sylvester, that seems to have worked for me. So far, this was only happening with Quicken, but I have only installed Quicken and Chrome - Chrome looks fine. As suggested: - I changed the VM configuration setting from "Best for Retina" to Scaled - When I restarted the VM, the Windows Display Settings came up as 2560 x 1440 (Recommended) with 100% text size That looked fine, so I left that as-is. Quicken came up looking as it should. I guess it is one of those old-style applications that does not play well with Retina. - For now, I opted not to make any changes OSX System Preferences / Displays, since things seem to be working ok. Cheers.
I use El Captian, Parallels Desktop 11, Windows 10 & Quicken 2016 on a retina MacBook Pro...no problems at all. Haven't had to change my VM settings due to the retina display. Just providing this info to let you know Quicken works fine. (Quicken has had some minor graphics issues in Windows VM, but they're usually cosmetic, and I can bear with them...these anomalies have persisted for several years for me...)
Hello msandrew, Thank you for sharing your thoughts! will be useful for people who are about to install Windows 10 and Quicken 2016 in future.
Sylvester@parallel Trying to install Quicken Windows 2016 downloaded from Amazon. Cannot see the file in windows 10 to be able to even click on it. Can see the file in Mac Downloads and has the Parallel symbol on it. Have downloaded more than once and file size is same. Appreciate any help with this.
Hey Lawrence, Irrespective of the file location, it will be an .exe file, so just double click on the file from Mac downloads - It will automatically pop up on your Windows or go to Windows environment and hit cmd + E key it will take you to the explorer > Check Downloads, you should be able to see the Quicken file.
