Running Parallels v8 on MBPro, Mountain Lion OS 10.8.6. I haven't been using my PC partition often. When I went to open it last, a pop-up ad for Parallels 11 appeared and a window saying that "the virtual machine is not available" and that files had been moved or deleted, with the window looking like a PC startup screen indicating Windows 7 with a question mark. I opened my Applications folder, which had an icon for the application. When clicked, nothing there. Needless to say, this is frustrating, as I had hundreds of hours of Quicken entry and other important programs and files in the PC partition. Spotlight shows icon for the app and the mounter but both are 'dummy' icons. I do not feel like giving Parallels money because I think Parallels is responsible for the problem, as it happened with a pop-up ad. Any advise much appreciated.
Hello Helen, Please follow this article and see if you are able to locate your .pvm files also check your Trash bin as well.
I'd been advised via @ParallelsCares to write to support, which I did. I mistook Sylvester's post above as a post from support, to which I had replied. I'm guessing Sylvester didn't get my reply. The update is that I followed the instructions in the article, backup the folders found, then tried again to find the application, with final result back to where I started, though with a difference. On the sidebar of my MBP a new listing of a shared something, directory??? Anyway, clicked it and it wanted a password. Clueless, I went to my Keychain, where i found nothing Parallels related but out of blue decided to check the option to have Keychain access status showing. The vertical Parallels icon suddenly appeared, as well as a red, animated arrow directing me to click the icon. When I did, it gave me msg re: exiting Coherence. Hmmm. OK. When I did that, suddenly an alternately named Windows desktop appeared. What I'd written to Sylvester included results of mentally backtracking computer actions taken between last time I used the PC partition and today, when it showed up lost. Bottom line: BEWARE iDRIVE program. They deny it could possibly be them, but its the only thing that had happened, and if you buy their program, they will start invading your computer immediately, without you setting up anything or indicating to start it, and it will take files and set up an uploading schedule for 10:56 pm. I did get the company to admit this is what they do. In the end,I have no idea where my original Parallels has gone, only that it is nowhere I can find but an alternate was created that seems to contain my 'stuff'. Glad to have it, though not a totally satisfactory ending. Mystery not yet solved Helen
