A note about disabling the CD/DVD-ROM connection

    Hello,

I hardly ever use the CD/DVD drive in Parallels, and I use it on the Mac side all the time, so I found it annoying that when I put in a CD it would open up in Parallels and not be visible to the Mac (until I disconnected it in Parallels).

So I edited my virtual machine and under CD/DVD-ROM options, unchecked the "Enabled" box. That solved the problem, but it created a new one: Parallels would freeze while resuming a suspended virtual machine.

So eventually I tried checking the "Enable" box but unchecking the "connect at startup" box. Problem solved! Now the default is for the Mac to be able to see the drive, but if I should ever need to use it in Parallels, I just click on Devices / CD/DVD-ROM 1 / Connect.

    Just thought I would share.

    Ben

Could you please provide an information on what build of Parallels Desktop you are running? I think that the hang on suspend/resume should be checked and fixed if it's reproducible.

OK, I'll notify our QA team to check this issue.

Hello again. It started to hang while resuming again. I went back to the original configuration (enabled the CD-ROM drive _and_ connect on startup), and that seemed to help.

    Same issue here

I would suggest a feature be added to parallels, at least asking how we want the CD-ROM drive used when activated, like when you connect a USB device. Not a horrible problem but a pain.

I've already filed this feature request to our developers, it should be implemented with the future updates.

Thank you very much for this tip, which I haven't seen in other threads on this subject. It works fine for me in 2.5.3214.

Yes, the hang seems to be fixed in the latest build.

Latest Build did not fix - but easily fixable

A couple of threads have mentioned a freeze when resuming. Other have mentioned it is only very slow at resuming from a suspended state. I had this problem before and after the last update. It turns out it was never a freeze, only very slow - 10 minutes or more to resume. The suggestion to ENABLE CD/DVD drive but uncheck AT STARTUP has fixed this problem for me.
