I'm having problems after upgrading from 3188 to 4560 / 5560. I think this may be because of the old Parallels Tools. I can't successfully boot into windows to install the new Parallels tools. I can boot into windows using either Bootcamp or Safe Mode under Parallels. However, when I try to uninstall Parallels Tools using the Add/Remove Programs control panel, I get the message "Parallels Tools require that your Windows is running under Virtual Machine. The installation will be stopped." This happens both under Bootcamp or Safe Mode. Is there a way to force it to uninstall? Or can I manually delete the components? Thanks, -c
Note that I've tried booting into safe mode and using the menu command to install Parallels tools but it always hangs (waited over two hours) at "Configuring your installation..." Thanks, -c
I had the same problem here. Parallels Support give me following solution: 1. Load the Boot Camp partition. 2. From the Windows Start menu, choose Run and type regedit. Click OK. The Registery Editor appears. 3. In the Registery Editor, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and delete the Parallels folder. Close the editor. 4. Load Mac OS. 5. Open the VM that uses the Boot Camp partition with Parallels Desktop
How I fixed Here's how I fixed this problem; not all of these steps may be necessary: * (Re)install parallels (I used the latest beta, 5120). * Run the XP install CD (under bootcamp), and choose R (repair); * Reboot into windows under bootcamp. * Delete the registry keys under HKLM/Software/Parallels * Reboot into Mac, run Parallels, reinstall parallels tools. I chose "custom" and didn't install "Application Sharing," "Web Application Sharing," and one other that I can't remember that I had read causes problems. * Reboot Parallels VM. * Reactive windows.
