    Hey everyone.
I recently picked up a Macbook Pro, a copy of Parallels, and Windows XP Pro SP2. I partitioned my computer for Bootcamp, installed XP and ran windows update until the software was totally up to date. XP will function normally under bootcamp.

    Version numbers:
    OSX 10.4.10
XP Pro SP2 fully up to date
    Parallels Build 4560

Quick summary: XP boots from Bootcamp partition, no mouse or keyboard control. Failure to install Parallels Tools.
Attempted fixes: Burned vmtools.iso to a cdrom and manually install. No change.

Long boring explanation: When attempting to run under Parallels, it begins startup saying something along the lines of "Installing Parallels Tools, don't do anything or else!". Once windows started up, it couldn't install due to the fact that I had my account passworded. I couldn't control the mouse or keyboard so I couldn't login. I forced a restart and removed the password so it would autologin. Starting up the virtual machine would again say it is installing the tools, but it now brought me to the desktop where a new hardware wizard window would show up, but it still wasn't accepting mouse or keyboard input so I can't do anything. Other than the wizard, nothing would happen. I tried connecting the CDROM drive to the vmtools iso, but that didn't do anything. I do not have autorun disabled. I eventually burned the vmtools iso to a cdrom, booted into windows, and installed them that way. Still when booting in Parallels I have a locked mouse and keyboard, and it says it is attempting to install the tools.

I can't move the mouse to do ANYTHING even if I plug in an external mouse and connect it to Parallels. This is really frustrating. Can anyone help?

E: It just occurred to me.. Could the new hardware wizard be the setup for the virtual CDROM drive? That would explain why the Parallel's tools isn't installing. Even if this is the case, how can I install the drivers when Parallel's won't let me use my input devices?

E2: No, that isn't the case. This keeps getting stranger. The disk is mounted, I can see it in Explorer (By turning on persistent Explorer windows between logouts).

Ha, I got it to work!
I fixed it by coping the ISO to C:\VMools, then creating a shortcut to thp PrlTools.exe placing it in startup with the following arguments: /s /f1"C:\Log.Log" /f2"C:\Setup.iss".
    YMMV.
Parallels' disk image is broken or something.
