I'm currently getting the warning from google that my os is no longer supported, so it's time to upgrade. Ok, probably past time to upgrade! My macbook pro is running Lion and I have Parallels 8 that runs my XP. I would like to upgrade to El Capitan and Parallels 11 - probably move to WIN 7 as well. Just looking for advice on the most seamless way to make this transition. Since I can't upgrade my parallels without purchasing the full version, it seemed like it might be easier to start fresh with a new virtual machine rather than trying to update the old. I appreciate any input you might have!

Hello mtdob1, we would recommend you to buy Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac full version and then backup of your Windows XP virtual machine (.pvm file) and then upgrade your Mac OS X to El Capitan. Thanks!

Thanks for responding. Parallels 8 is only supported through Maveriks, so I wasn't sure if that would work or not.

You are right about the Parallels Desktop 8's compatibility and this does not affect the Virtual Machine. So, you could use the same Virtual Machine on Parallels Desktop 11 also. Make sure you update the Parallels Tools once you upgrade to Parallels Desktop 11.
