I think the problem is with the package xserver-xorg-input-libinput now dependency of xserver-xorg-input-all.
You can try install an old release of xserver-xorg-input-all (also 7.7+14 is ok):
    Code:
    cd /tmp
    wget http://kali.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/kali/pool/main/x/xorg/xserver-xorg-input-all_7.7%2b12_amd64.deb
    dpkg -i xserver-xorg-input-all_7.7+12_amd64.deb
    dpkg --purge xserver-xorg-input-libinput

    and holding both packages:
    Code:
    apt-mark hold xserver-xorg-input-all xserver-xorg-input-libinput

    or pinning only xserver-xorg-input-libinput:
    Code:
    cat >/etc/apt/preferences.d/parallels-fix <<EOB
    Package: xserver-xorg-input-libinput
    Pin: release *
    Pin-Priority: -1
    EOB

A reboot or X restart is required.
Works for me with latest Paralles and updated Kali Rolling (with kernel 4.5). :)

Here is the solution that worked for me. I had exactly the same issue; I installed Parallels Tools exactly according to above instructions and once you have tools installed, you need to go to Configuration menu of the VM and enable "Optimize for Games" under Mouse & Keyboard menu.

    1. Go to Actions --> Configure --> Mouse & Keyboard: Optimize for games drop down choice.

    And mouse pointer will appear.

I have heard nothing further from Parallels. Ticket closed....no further communication. How to lose customers 101. How can we escalate this?

Gary2 you say you are using Debian and not Kali? If that is the case then the "We do not support Kali" excuse is not valid.

Arun@parallels you indicated in response to Gary earlier in this post that Parallels is aware of the issue and will be fixing it in your future build. Since Gary is using Debian which is supported by Parallels and you have indicated that you are aware of the issue and are fixing it then the feedback and response we are receiving from Parallels support regarding Kali not being supported is totally unacceptable.

Please can you provide an update on when this will be addressed.

I would also encourage all of you in this post to escalate this as far as possible.

It seems to me that Parallels Developers are implementing changes without testing on the supported OS's and then when the VM breaks they wash their hands of the matter under the excuse that it is an unsupported Distro, meanwhile knowing full well that the issue affects supported OS's (Debian) as well.

This works for me but the mouse acts weird and jerky.

This is what I did to fix the problem.

    Installed virtual box
    Installed Kali
    Updated Kali
Installed tools which is already included in the repos
    Setup shared folders
    Mouse works

  9. sunscan's answer at the top of page 2 fixed it for me!!!

    THANK YOU SUNSCAN YOU LEGEND!

  10. The only problem I have now is title bars doing the attached.. Although i'm not too sure if that's related to Parallels Tools are just a problem with my guest.

    THANK YOU AGAIN SUNSCAN

So, do you suspect the issue lies with xserver-xorg-input-libinput or with prtools? Do you suggest un-pinning from apt once a new parallels release comes along, or a new libinput?

    Not sure.
The package it's the same from Debian (http://pkg.kali.org/news/259509) so I think this problem will be in the next Debian release.
Lesson learned: always make a snapshot before upgrade. :)

The fix seems more simple than expected:
    1. Create a snapshot
    2. Remove hold/pinning of the packages:
      Code:
      apt-mark unhold xserver-xorg-input-all xserver-xorg-input-libinput
      rm -f /etc/apt/preferences.d/parallels-fix
    3. Upgrade all the packages
    4. Create this link:
      Code:
      mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
      cd /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
      ln -s /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-prlmouse.conf .
OR edit the file /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/60-libinput.conf commenting out these lines:
      Code:
      Section "InputClass"
              Identifier "libinput pointer catchall"
              MatchIsPointer "on"
              MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
              Driver "libinput"
      EndSection
    5. Reboot or Restart X
Please verify if it works for you. :)
