Hi everyone. I recently bought Parallels Desktop for Mac Pro Edition (1 Year). The noise sounds like a "machine gun" noise - can go for up to 7 seconds sometimes. my best attempt to pin point what causes it is that it happens when there have been some Windows notifications happen in the background. E.g. when MS Outlook has Appointment Reminders prompts that have occurred when I wasn't "in" the VM. My best guess so far.

I have just had the same experience. I upgraded Parallels to 12.1, and on opening the bootcamp VM (Windows 7 Home Premium) there was a terrifyingly loud harsh sound. I took fright and powered off the iMac. On attempting to restart Windows it went into the startup repair routine, which failed. A few minutes later, Windows started up normally. I am very reluctant to try opening the bootcamp drive with Parallels again. If anyone can help with this issue, I would be very grateful!

Here is the response from Parallels (via Facebook messaging- I was unable to find an email address for support):
"When you access Bootcamp directly only Windows will be running on your Mac, but when you access Bootcamp Windows through Parallels Desktop both Mac and Windows will be running. Parallels Desktop needs to access the Windows partition from Mac partition so it will use more resources when compared to standalone VM. We cannot tell the exact cause for the issue. Thanks, AM".
I am none the wiser, and very reluctant to try the VM through Parallels again.
