Issues after installing KDE Plasma 5.6 in Ubuntu 16.04 as VM

Discussion in 'Linux Virtual Machine' started by Parallels User, Jan 16, 2017.

  1. I recently installed the Plasma desktop in Ubuntu by following the instructions from this link:http://www.tecmint.com/install-kde-plasma-5-in-linux/. I seem to have KDE installed correctly and can even get some applications working. However, when I try to open the software store, I can see it load on the taskbar, but it crashes after a few moments. I have also noticed that the taskbar previews come up blank most of the time. I've attached a dropbox link to a video that demonstrates these issues. Would these issues be due to the VM or the plasma desktop itself? Any ideas on a possible fix?

(Let me know if there any problems with the link)

I just tried Kubuntu. After installing parallels tools the plasma desktop doesn't come up: Plasma Desktop couldn't be started because it couldn't use OpenGL2... Any way to install parallels tools that this doesn't occure? I installed Kubuntu as Ubuntu... Would installing it as Linux other help, or is there no way that this works? OpenSuse (which uses KDE too) does work...

Oh, setting 3d acceleration off (in Hardware/Display/Advanced) allows it to start.
