I've been running Windows 10 using Parallels 11 on my Mac (10.12) with no issues for awhile. The other night there was a Windows update which I ran but upon restart of Windows 10 I was greeted with a black screen. It says Windows is starting but then instantly goes to a black screen. I did some searching and tried the suggestions I found here, but nothing worked:

    http://blog.parallels.com/2015/09/29/how-to-fix-the-black-screen-in-windows/

CTRL-ALT-DELETE does not work. I can only suspend the VM through the actions menu bar but I am not able to shut down via this method.

    Please advise.

Hi @BillW3, thanks for reaching out! Please start your virtual machine and go to Action(From Mac menu bar) to select "Reset". Please let us know how it works. We are here to help!

Thanks for the reply. I just tried reset and I could see it say "resetting" and then briefly flashed the Windows logo before going black again. Anything else I could try?

Hello @BillW3, please be informed that Parallels Desktop 12 Update 12.2 (41591) was released and the issue has been addressed. Please update Parallels Desktop to the latest build. Please note that Parallels Tools also needs to be updated (Actions > Update Parallels Tools) and let us know how it works.

So wait, are you saying I have to spend $50 to update because there is an issue with my version of Parallels?

Ok, I was responding to the post directly above mine that said to update to the latest Parallels 12 build (I'm currently on 11). I'll try those steps asap and report back. Thanks.

When I click check for updates it says "You have the latest update for Parallels Desktop 11. In addition, the steps outlined in Scenario 2 from Paul's post above are not possible. I am not able to make any changes on the hardware tab since my VM is suspended and I have no option to shut it down.

The message I get is: "To be able to change the settings on this page, resume the virtual machine and then shut it down". Unfortunately I have no way to shut it down as it is now. Very frustrating.

Would my next option be to delete the Windows 10 VM and reinstall?

As mentioned in my first post, I am UNABLE to shut down the VM. Nothing works! I've tried to shut down from the action menu. I've tried to stop from the action menu. I've tried to reset from the action menu. Nothing works! The only thing I can do is suspend.
