Exactly the same problem for me...

When the iSight is NOT connected, the CPU utilization is more or less 9%.
But when i connect the iSight (using the Device menu)... the CPU utilization is at 40 %. There is nothing running on Windows XP SP2 (For info, the Task Manager in Windows XP shows 1% CPU utilization)...

The high CPU load when USB drive (device) is connected has been reported to Parallels many times - I did report it during last beta testing myself (and provided reproducible procedure to document this issue) and I have seen at least few posts on this same subject before and after.

My real need to have this fixed comes from need to write ntfs disks, which cannot be well addressed by Mac OSX.

I have never seen really explanation for this effect from Parallels. It must be something more challenging, since they tried to optimize cpu load previously (and succesfully).

It would be really useful to address this issue, if it is possible.

    DJ-GROBE,
The best thing you can do is to give us some general information, this goes for anytime you have issues with a computer product. Try to use decent capitilization, etc. If it isn't your native language, we can tell if you made an attempt or not. Switching caps around mid-word in a strange manner is not something confused with other languages.

More importantly, we need the information outlined in this thread: http://forum.parallels.com/thread10371.html

As to the USB issues, has anyone tried opening the Parallels program, and then launching the VM? That has helped in the past for us with USB issues.

    Build 5158:

    5% when idle
30% when idle with USB device is plugged in (I used an iPhone)

No running Parallels then opening the config DOES NOT help.

Are Parallels devs working on this issue?

    1. Mac OS Version 10.4.10
    2. Parallels Build 5158
    3. iMac 24" 2.4Ghz Core 2
    4. 3GB
    5. 320GB HD, using disk images for virtual OS drives
    6. Not bootcamp
    7. Upgraded from previous beta
    8. Not sure what build this problem started, only just noticed it
    9. Parallels Tools are installed

What does Parallels Tool show in Task Manager?

How are your USB devices set-up? Auto-connect? Ask when connected?

    Hello,

indiekiduk, I would advise you to update your PD. This can help.
fredash, what Mac do you use? Is it Santa Rosa?

    Best regards,

100%+ CPU usage while the "Do you want to connect" dialog is open

I have Parallels Desktop 3 build 5608 running on a Macbook Pro 2.33 GHz (late 2006), 4 GB RAM and MacOS 10.5.5.

    1. I insert a USB device (such as a U3 Cruzer Micro memory stick, but it has happened with a Verbatim memory stick, a Logitech MX500 mouse...). I happen to have Parallels running in the background, but have no intention of using the USB device in Parallels at this time.

    2. Parallels now pops up a dialog (in the background; I'm doing other things with the USB device in Finder):
While this dialog is open, the CPU utilization of Parallels goes to about 104%. It doesn't matter if I eject the USB device from the Macbook Pro, the utilization stays at 104% all the time while the dialog is open. This doesn't look normal to me, Parallels shouldn't use up a CPU unless it actually does something. Showing a dialog (and locking the rest of the VM) shouldn't take up 100%+ of your CPU...

    3. If I close the dialog by clicking Cancel (or OK for that matter) the utilization drops down to a normal level (10-15%).
