I installed Parallels fine on my IMAC and Windows is up and running. Printer connected to our IMac is a Canon Pixma MP 450. That model is not listed on the Windows printer list, so I have tried to install the printer software from the CD. I get all the way to the end and come to the last step, which is to connect the printer. When I do so, I get a message which says: "USB device you are trying to connect to the virtual machine is being used by another application. Close that application or unplug the device and plug it again. Then try to connect the device again."

I have loaded the software both with the printer connected to the IMac and not connected (the latter is what Canon says you need to do when loading into Windows.) Either way I end up at the same spot.

Printer sharing is enabled in System Preferences.

    What next

    hi,
whether you see your printer at Devices->USB menu group? If yes then check whether checked sign presents on device item and try to select it with mouse to pass device into the guest OS if necessary.

after bonjour still does not work - and neither does printing from Mac!

I installed Bonjour, chose the generic postscript driver since a specific one for MP 460 was not available. The printer shows up when I hit Print, but it will not print. Worse yet, now my Imac also will not print. When I try to print from the IMac, I get a message saying "Error Numer 300: The printer doe snot resppond. Make sure that the printer is plugged inm powered-on and properly connected to the computer." All of these are done. What next?

on Mac, run Printer Setup Utility, from Applications:Utilities folder.

click on Printer Setup Utility Menu (next to apple on menu bar) and click "reset printing system" This will remove all your installed printers, so you will have to add them back, but it should aslo restore printing to the Mac.

What Mac/ Version of Mac OS are you running??

    Jeff,
another question: whether you try to print from Mac OS side when Parallels running? Try to close Parallels and it would be much better to reload Mac OS too and try to print without Parallels start.

can print from Mac side again but still not from Windows

I found now that if I do not start the VM (Windows) then I can print from the Mac side. However, this does not solve my problem that I still cannot print from the Windows side. AAnd, of course, I cannot shut off the Mac side to print from Windows!

    hi,
of course i do not provide you a solution that require to shutdown Mac OS side. I just want to determine that under Mac OS your printer still working properly.

I did read that threat, and the problem there was solved by setting up Bon jour. I ste up Bonjour, but still cannot print on Windows side.
