Yesterday I wanted to start Paralells but then, first time ever, Mac Os X crashed and I had to push the POWER button of my iMac more than 5 seconds to finish Mac OS X. After rebooting Mac Os X, I also tried to restart my WinXP in Paralells.... but now I always get the following error message: "Virtual machine cannot be started because of the following problem: Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file /Users/Rainer/Documents/Parallels/winxp/winxp.hdd. The file is used by other application." I don't understand this because the .hdd-file isn't used by another application !!!! In the folder with the paralells image-files there is a .hdd-file and a .pvs-file Does anyone knows how to restart my VM ??? Thanx for help... fishrain

Hello John I removed the .lck-file. after that I tried starting the VM. It failed...I got the following Error Message: "Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file /Users/Rainer/Documents/Parallels/winxp/winxp.hdd. The file is corrupted." Then I tried this solution http://kb.parallels.com/entry/64/547/ ..but in my virtual machine folder (its called "winxp") I can't find ".sav" and ".mem" files !!!? The content of my virtual machine folder: winxp.hdd winxp.pvs Folder called "Windows Disks" Hope there's a solution !!?? Thanx fishrain
everything works again... Fortunately I had a backup of the DiskDescriptor.xml-file. The bad one was empty... I replaced the bad one with the backup-file (without editing anything of the content)...and now my VM starts again Thanx for help fishrain
