I have a Windows 10 guest OS for which the Hard Disk .hdd file is 40 GB.

The size of the used space indicated inside the guest OS is 27 GB.

    The guest contains no snapshots...

Reclaim disk space says it would give me back 62 MB.

I'm wondering if there is a reason for the addiitonal 13 GB of disk space is being consumed by the Guest HD image.

I tried the "Free Up Disk Space" option but there doesn't appear to be anything that would free up the 13 GB.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should try ghosting a new HD image from the current one in hopes it would free up the extra space.

I tried ghosting the drive, unfortunately this did not actually work as the new image was still at 40 GB (though it too reported 26 GB of space was in use)...

I'm wondering if something in the latest Windows 10 update causes free space to be leveraged to store backups or some other types of files invisibly (like Mac does for Time Machine).
