Issue with virtual disks in Windows using SATA interface

  1. This issue appeared in Parallels 14:

I have a Windows 10 installation running off the Bootcamp partition. This machine is configured to connect a secondary hard drive that is a virtual hard disk (.hdd). Upon suspending then resuming, Explorer.exe hang every time I try to access this secondary hard drive. At that point you cannot shutdown the virtual machine as it will try to shutdown forever and have to perform a Stop on the virtual machine. Luckily even tough Explorer.exe no longer responds, you still are able to save your documents and close all your opened programs.

Looking at the configuration of my virtual machine, I saw it was configured as a SATA drive. Probably have been this way for al one time. I tried changing it to SCSI and test the suspension-resume sequence once more. It appear this change made the problem go away.

Still, this is an annoying issue even though there is a workaround for it.
