I have been digging around for a while, and can't find other references to this problem. I have re-tried things a couple of times and have verified that with a CLEAN install of Leopard, after installing build 5160 my permissions are messed up on my root directory.

I tried this 2 times, and in both cases the ONLY change I made was run the 5160 install. Before, all is ok. Afterward, I have the problem where root folders on my local HD have the "You have custom access" rather than "You can read and write" (when getting info). The folders are personal ones. I am admin (only account on the machine).

I tried running disk utility repair permissions (took 45 minutes, no success in these areas).

I tried creating a new admin account and using it. No success.

I tried batchMod to manually re-assign permissions. No luck.

Parallels itself appeared to run fine, but I didn't keep it long to find out. I am mainly concerned with how it was messing with the other stuff in 10.5. I have since re-imaged and am now waiting to hear before trying to reinstall Parallels again.

Just wondering if anyone could confirm that "Yes, I have that problem, too", or "No, I don't have any permissions problems like this after installing Parallels." I am on a MBP, so if you are as well that would help eliminate variables.

    Hello iveand,

We'd like to have more information on the folders you can't get access to.
Could you run ls -al / | grep drw in Terminal and send me the output?
    Thank you for your report.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

I will get to that shortly on my HDD backup

I will go ahead and install parallels 5160 on my backup 10.5. I am really gunshy about installing again on my primary HD. When I do I will verify I have the problems and then run the command you gave. I am sorry that I don't have more Unix / Terminal experience to be able to help, but if you ask me to run some commands, I am more than happy to do it. Can you recommend an online reference for getting up to speed with Terminal? Apple help is very hands off in this area.

    Thanks,

    iveand

Before / After results of "ls -al / | grep drw" Command

Note that the folders in qeustion (example is "1-andyHD-Backup") has no difference listed, but the main difference is in the first two lines, where:

"." and ".." are admin before with "drwxrwxr-t"
"." and ".." are wheel afterward with "drwxr-xr-x"

Is this helpful? I sure hope so. Now that my external HDD is messed up and my main boot drive is still good, I should be able to run any side by side commands that you may want in order to sort out what happened. Glad to help as I have vested interest in getting this sorted out.
