Parallels working perfectly. No problem at all. But -- it seems to run XP applications very slowly. Any idea what could be wrong? Should I defrag my C: disk from within XP?
Hello, could you please provide me with some additional information: 1. Mac OS Version 2. Parallels Build # 3. Total Physical RAM and RAM allocated to the VM 4. If Parallels Tools are installed Best regards, Alicia.
Thank you for your quick response. OS 10.4.10 and 10.4.11 V 5160 MANUAL: 768MB of 2GB -- Virtual pre-allocation VRAM = 32 Accel = HIGH Enable VT-x Optimize for VM Enable Direct-X VM Tools installed. Says there are no disks to be Compacted. How long till FireWire and Direct-X 9 support? I really don't like Bootcamp.
Hello, do you mean your Mac has 2 GB of RAM and 756 MB of them are allocated to PD? Then, what is the amount for the specific VM? You can check it in the Configuration Editor, Memory tab. Best regards, Alicia.
I don't know what you mean by "PD"? For some reason I can't set the slider past about 960MB. I'm not sure what "Virtual pre-allocation" means. Video RAM is at 32MB.
PD - Parallels Desktop. There are two levels of memory settings: for Parallels Desktop and for each VM. The first one is in Parallels Desktop Preferences and the second one is in Configuration Editor for the VM inside PD. Could you, please, check them both? Your issue can ba caused by some memory stuff. Best regards, Alicia.
Ok, please, try to set RAM allocated to a VM at 512 MB and check if it improves performance. Best regards, Alicia.
You are good! The XP Start-up sound now plays fine. Folders drag fine. I must have lowered PD. It looks like VP really needs 1/2GB + 1/2GB more for the VM. So if PD is 1GB, VM can only be 1/2GB. I also reset Video RAM to 16MB. Thank you! If you are in India -- where. I'll be in Chennai in a month.
