my sole argument is to stick to what works
corporate data also MUST be backed up

obviously a major sys admin will prefer the use of standardised thin clients like those offered by SUN
from the corporate security point of view the less customizing users do the better

One of the Parallels suppliers offers preinstalled packages on corporate machines which saves hours of time and money

    I think your title
5160: STILL screwing up my desktop with shared profile! is really misleading
it sounds like a single user problem

and it does not really define the question you should be asking

BTW how many parallells / windows licenses are involved?
just to get the measure of what you are doing

    how many slave machines?

    How is the title misleading?

Shared Profile keeps activating TWICE anytime my VM reboots or crashes, and it deletes all my desktop files, with no recovery. Until I relaunch finder, I have no read/write access to my desktop. Every time.

Anyway. One VM on one instance of parallels on one computer.

Yes, of course a sys admin loves thin clients...
But, roaming Profiles are quite a standard though, for instance, Deloitte. uses Roaming Profiles.

Naturally we should keep things simple, but there is also the ease of use associated with some of Parallels' features. To get desktops mirrored is not that unusual of an idea considering the sort of application Parallels sees a lot of.

Phazer, did you get the answer to my question? Oh, and your title wasn't misleading to me... Not to pick a fight. You just didn't get enough content in your body. I suppose it is your work that sets up the Roaming Profile, right?

    Hello,

could you please try to do the following?
Go to the Configuration Editor of your VM (Run Parallels Desktop and click on the Microsoft Windows icon near the name of the VM).
Click on the Shared Profile tab.
Deselect the checkbox 'Desktop as Desktop in Windows'.
Then run your VM one more time and describe me please the behavior of Parallels.

    Best regards,
    Stacey

Yes it is set on our domain... I'm sure I could request to have it turned off

I am having what I belive is the same nasty issue.

    Situation
    roving profiles via windows.
    MAC RUNNING PARALLELS.
I opened my new XP install on the mac and joined the windows domain.
saw the mac desktop sharing on the mac very nice.
    logged off
logged into network local xp machine.
    my normal desktop was gone.
checked server (windows) saw my desktop was intact there.
Started to edit registry to bring back correct defaults.
but so far I can not find everything that was changed to no longer my (remote profile) to work.
can you post a list of Registry changes that parallels has done so I can get back to work.
Nice product but you need a warning about this.

    Hello,

Please sorry for losing sight of this thread.

You get the issue described above because of the design limitation: Shared Profile and Roaming Profile would not work with Domain as they use the same Folder Redirection mechanism.

We apologize for not pointing out this design limitation in our official announcements and user documentation. Thank you for bringing the fact to our notice. We'll improve this.

    Best regards,
    Xenos
