I am evaluating whether to purchase Parallels Desktop. My Windows PC died but the hard drive ( C: ) is still working. Can I plug the disk as an external drive to my M1 iMac and import the Windows installation as a virtual machine? It is running a retail x86 version of Windows 10 (not OEM) so in theory it will run on a new hardware and is eligible to upgrade to Windows 11.

I don't want to build a new PC just to get the data out of the hard drive -- I'd like to access the Windows installation within Mac and speed of the virtual machine isn't an issue as I only need a few installed special applications on Windows.

Will I be able to extract the product key from my existing Windows 10 installation?
