Applications/games not working in Windows on Arm

Trying to get SignalHound's Spike signal analysis software running, and find a "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" caused as a result of this error in syslog:

meta_window_set_stack_position_no_sync: assertion 'window->stack_position >= 0' failed
```

This happenes after starting Spike software from the command line. Same result when run as normal user and root. Same result with Signalhound device plugged in vs not.

I ran the program with Valgrind and have attched the logs, perhaps that's of some use. Same with syslogs.


Parallels toolbox for Ubuntu is installed and up to date on the VM.
Parallels is up to date.
MacOS is up to date.
Ubuntu is up to date.
I'm trying to run the most up-to-date version of spike.

I've verified that the Spike software + Sigalhound hardware work just fine on a different (x86) computer.

Specs:
Macbook M1 Max (10 cores, 64GB RAM)
MacOS: 15.0.1 (Latest available)
Parallels: Version 20.1.0 (55732) (latest available)
VM: Ubuntu 24.04 x64 w/ Rosetta enabled.
VM Resources: 4 cores, 8GB RAM, access to the SignalHound BB60C USB device.

Verified USB is connected:

For me is not working, wich parallels settings are you using?

Amnesia: Rebirth and Amnesia: The Bunker both give black screens after the intro. I can hear the game music and people talking, but nothing on the screen.

I have tried setting the graphics lower, turning off special effects, limiting shadows, switching to windowed mode, etc. Nothing makes any difference. Neither game requires DirectX 12 (I always check before purchasing a Windows game)

This is on M3 Max MacBook Pro, in case that matters

Based on our recent tests, we can say that TikTok Live Studio (v0.76.0) can be installed inside a Windows 11 virtual machine running in Parallels Desktop 20.2.0 on a Mac with Apple silicon chip.
If you still have issues with installation, you can install the Visual Studio Redistributable libraries by executing the command below in Command Prompt (inside a Windows VM):
winget install Microsoft.VCRedist.2015+.x64

 

Using Korean server of ffxiv(fine fantasy 14) and it worked well until the Dawntrail update. Starts giving me Fatal DirectX Error (30000000) message. Tried everything. https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1dqglsa/fatal_directx_error_30000000/ even this one. still doesn't work. Now I gotta quit so it's very frustrating and this thread is my last hope???

Microsoft has just released Public Preview of SQL Server 2025: https://info.microsoft.com/ww-landing-sql-server-2025.html.
Based on our tests, it can be installed in Windows on Arm without any issues.

I was using VMWare Fusion prior to acquiring Parallels Pro today, as it seems to be a far superior Windows VM experience on the Mac. To my surprise, this game ran perfectly fine on VMWare Fusion isn't working on Parallels. Wondering what might the problem be.

I tried al different Parallels modes (game mode, etc) none seem to work.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

It's been awhile. Nothing in my email about this. Has there been any progress at all?

 

Parallels 26.2.2, Tahoe 26.2, Win-11 VM. So far just SQL Server "service" processes i.e. no SQL Server Enterprise, Developer, Express. There is a cut down version of SQL Express ("LocalDB") which does run. It has the limitations of SQL Express plus it runs only in the context of the process that connects to it. The connection is via named pipes; it runs more like accessing the database via a DLL. Have connected from Visual Studio and locally-installed SSMS. Lack of SQL Agent will become annoying but not insurmountable. Next one to try is MS-Access (locally installed) then Office.

 

The rift breaker is stuck on loading screen.

 

I actually have it fully installed, but for some reason management studio is currently broken and Microsoft is aware. Maybe the fix will be available sometime in the last part of the second half of the year (typical timeframe for Microsoft to resolve bugs).

 

I have a useable but annoying environment using LocalDB. MS-DOS command "SqlLocalDB.exe start" to start the service to talk to LocalDB then "SqlLocalDB.exe info MSSQLLocalDB" to get the name of the pipe. SSMS, Visual Studio, SQL Profiler all working if connected via the named pipe. The annoying bits are the lack of SQL Agent owing to the SQL Express origins of this set-up, and the pipe name changing each time the VM is restarted. Which Win11 is doing with its updates with regular monotony. I can live within the 50Gb cap that SQL Express now has. The set-up is probably less annoying than having a second (linux) VM to run SQL Server or needing an intel-based WinPC on the LAN. Microsoft unlikely to address, they may want developers on subscription annuity revenue cloud SQL Server rather than in-premise no revenue Developer edition.

 

It took Microsoft over ten years to get Windows to run on ARM optimally, it might take them a while longer to get SQL Server to run on ARM correctly.

 

Witcher 3 used to be working fine until yesterdays update, now it crashes upon launch.

 

Latest 26.3.0 (57392) Parallels completely broke Steam's ability to launch, and thus no Steam games will launch. Totally dead in the water with anything related to Steam after the update. Prior to that everything was working fine.
