When my computer wakes up from a sleep, there is very frequently a Kernel Panic

I just purchased a 2.6GHz MacBook Pro Running Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.1)
I also purchased 4GB Kingston Mac RAM and installed it myself. If I go to the "About This Mac" area, the 4GB of RAM appears installed correctly. I also installed Windows Vista Business into Boot Camp. This also appears to be working properly.

I then installed Parallels Desktop 3 (Latest Version) and I am using the Boot Camp partition as a virtual drive in Parallels.

I noticed that when I close the lid and put my computer to sleep, and then wake it up at a later time, that I get that great Kernel Panic screen forcing me to restart my computer.

The peripherals connected are pretty minimal. Just a 7 Port D-Link USB Hub and a USB Mouse. In addition, I have an ethernet cable and the power cable connected. That is all I have connected.

The only software I installed is the latest version of Parallels Desktop 3 For Mac.

    Here is the error information:

I did install my own RAM but my computer boots fine and functions well. If I perform the system_profiler, the RAM appears to be installed properly. I have even removed the USB Hub and the problem still happens. Please help me fix this.

Is your vm suspended when you put your mbp to sleep?

Is it very important to make sure it is suspended before putting the mcp to sleep? Would that be what can cause this error?

    Hello all,

Xgamerx, we have already been informed on this kernel panic issue with build 5582 and we are gathering all the data to investigate the problem. Thank you for your report.

Please let me know, did you install the last Apple security update?

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    Great

    Hey Xenos,

Glad to hear that you are familar with the issue. I have installed all the updates through the Software Update center. I actually haven't had the problem since that time. I don't know if that's luck or if it is fixed.

One last question. Is it actually "officially" true that I can't have parallels running when I put my MacBook Pro to sleep?

    Hello Xgamerx,

Happy to know you are not having the issue now. Please let me know if it comes back.

You can have Parallels running when you put your MacBook Pro to sleep but it can take the Virtual Machine some time to "wake up".
You should hide Parallels or suspend it to get it working again quickly after resuming your Mac.

To hide Parallels click Parallels Desktop in the menu bar -> Hide Parallels Desktop.
To suspend click Actions in Parallels Desktop menu bar -> Suspend.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    Hi,

I am having a similar issue. When I shutdown windows running in Parallels, it gets to the final black screen with "It is now safe to turn off your computer" and I get the kernel panic.

I am running this on a MacBook. All Mac security updates are up-to-date and the latest December upgrade of Parallels.

    Any help here?
    Thanks!

    Hello Pjlilley,

Please send me a crash log for we could analyze the issue.
You will find the logs on your Mac side:

I'm having similar issues: brand new iMac, os x 10.5.1, 4GB user installed ram, parallels 3.0. Everything was installed cleanly at the beginning of time.

    Getting the same Kernel Panic

I am getting the same Kernel Panic periodically over the past few days. I would love to know when the developers have found a resolution. Here is the latest panic log for reference. It is nearly identical to the others in this thread:

Don't know if this is a solution for all, but after upgrading to the latest Parallels (5584) last week, I ::knocks on wood:: have not had the kernel panic. --pj

A month later, same issue (?)

    Hi all,

I have been using Parallels and I must say have been SUPER impressed with it - beyond all expectations. It's on a 2-week-old macbook pro and has run flawlessly every day since I installed it. I've put it through a lot, too. Today, I had this kernel panic twice. The only thing I've changed in my setup is I installed a USB hub (4-port) yesterday and have been using it, though none of the devices are connected through to my VM. Here is the crash report, very similar to the previous ones in this thread:

Okay I'll do that - question: shouldn't my parallels have detected that there was a new version when I did "check for updates"?

    Hello Mgg,

Check for updates option might have been unavailable because too many users were addressing to the server at the same time to download the new build. Please use the direct link.

    Best regards,
    Xenos
