If I install Ubuntu 7.10 on a Notebook it might run OK but I would not be able to access my peripheral devices, since I do not have Linux drivers.

What if I install Parallels and run Windows XP as a guest system inside Parallels? Will I be able to use Windows drivers to acces my peripherals?

MOST unlikely. The devices are accessed using the HOST drivers w/o which you're D.O.A.

You should solve the Ubuntu 7.10 access first, but the question is 'what if' as even Ubuntu 7.10 is yet to be installed if I read you correctly.
