Hello, I have contacted sales.us@2x.com twice in the past two weeks with no response. I am still somewhat interested in implementing 2X but I have a few questions. I recently received a chance to interact with the 2X Application Server at another company. They did a very good job at presenting it and we have gained interest in the product. We are currently using Novell with ZENworks Network Application Launcher (NAL). We are looking at 2X to completely replace our NAL. Right now our NAL opens and installs applications locally. We do like the ability run applications on our terminal server but we do require several applications to run locally and they will need an icon in the 2X Client window. - Can we use 2X to provide access to both Terminal Server-based and local (client-based) applications? - Can we use 2X to provide access to local applications if workstation is not connected to the network? - Does it support eDirectory? - Terminal Services occasionally has issues with processes hitting 100% (i.e. an application locks up and a user does not realize this application is running on the terminal server). When this happens everyone will be effected, what have you done to combat this? Thank You, Jesse
Hi I am sure that if you try to contact support they will answer you, however in a nut shell the answers to your queries are as follows: 1. At the moment only remote apps can be started from the client, you can redirect URLand mail requests to local applications. A workaround is to add remote shortcuts to the local desktop or Start menu with the local applications and start application direct from the desktop or menu. The idea is to integrate remote apps locally, however I am sure that 2x will consider your query as a feature request. 2. No, the client needs to be able to connect to the server always. 3. The system uses the authentication from Windows OS so cant give you a definite answer, depends if eDirectory inegrates seamlessly with windows auth, a trial version is avaialable so I would try it out. 4. A feature called 'CPU load balancer' is available. This module monitors if an application is taking too much CPU power, in this case its priority is lowered allowing the other apps to continue to work.
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately 2X support has failed to call back or respond to any emails. I like the idea of CPU Load Balancing. The client needs to be able to operate independently if the server is offline and provide access to local applications. I will keep 2X in mind, it has many good features.
Zippo: I have it on a laptop running Virtual Box with no access to eDirectory. Looks like we made a final decision to move to AD in July-August anyways. Davidsaliba: If you could that would be great.
