I can install CentOS 5.0 in Parallels Desktop #3214 without a hitch, until I try to give more than 516MB of RAM to the VM. With 520MB or over, boot fails with Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception.

Does anyone know if there is a way to deal with this? I can't use it with that little RAM.

    Thanks

OK, I got an answer from Paralllels tech support:

Unfortunately we don't support more than 516 mb of RAM for the CentOS guest.

CentOS 4 doesn't seem to suffer from this problem. Also Xubuntu hits similar problems a little higher, around 600MB.

    hi,
did you try to set up more than 1 Gb RAM for VM? Probably it sounds strange but i had unexplainable issues with one of the last Red Hat kernels and read later that beginnning from some time RH guaranties stable work of their kernels (server kernels meaning at first) just at >= 1Gb of RAM.
