I am attempting to upgrade from 5540 to 5570. The installer is at the Install Parallels
Desktop window with the subheading of Installing Parallels Desktop. The information in
the window is Preparing Parallels Desktop with a progress bar that shows only a very
tiny amount of gray (progress) with the text below the bar Running Parallels Installer
script. The problem is it has been at this state for over 60 minutes with no progress
shown. Is there further information you would like me to gather to assist in
    troubleshooting the issue?

Quick update, I followed the instructions posted on another thread to completely
remove Parallels, rebooted the mac, tried to install and got the exact same
results. Below are the contents of the install log which seem to imply an issue
with the installer looking for a file or directory that doesn't exist:

I tried installing 5540 after cleaning everything. The installer log now gives a

    Same hanging issue on Leopard

I am receiving the same issue -- I have attached a screen shot of where it hangs. I don't understand how SWSoft can say the "Parallels Desktop installer hangs on Leopard - fixed" is actually fixed... it is obviously still occurring.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

    fix/hack found

I found a fix to this over at another thread. While the installer is running if you open terminal and run:

    cd /Volumes/Parallels Desktop/Install Parallels Desktop.pkg/Contents/Resources

    then

    sudo ./preflight

it'll kickstart the installer and finish successfully. Not that end-users should have to do this, but....

    no luck

I tried the method listed above for installing 5160 and 5570. No success. The errors
below are from the 5160 install attempt and the errors in the terminal are the same
    as previous:
./preflight: line 82: /Library/StartupItems/Parallels/Parallels: No such file or directory
kextunload: /Library/StartupItems/Parallels/Pvsvnic.kext: no such bundle file exists
    can't add kext (file access/permissions).

The errors in the install log:
    Nov 27 04:43:49 schnide Installer[2086]: Create temporary directory "/private/tmp/Install Parallels Desktop.pkg.2086ZstFZo"

The errors for the 5570 install are similiar to before (from the install log):

I also did disk verify/repair and permissions repair just to get the drive clean.
It made no difference. Appreciate the tip. Are there other debugging or
    troubleshooting advise?

    Thanks

    Hi!
I'm pretty puzzled by this issue. For now I would like you to try preflight script with debug info. This preflight file can be found in attached zip archive.
You need to simply substitute original preflight file with this one. Please post the results.

Plus, could you please check whether you can install other applications on your machines or not.

    Hello,

I mounted the 5570 dmg in read/wire mode and replaced preflight. I launched the
installer and it hung at the same place in the process. The install log is below (some
    of the env portions removed):

I just looked at the preflight script and see lines 81-83 referred to above are:
    # unload drivers
    /Library/StartupItems/Parallels/Parallels stop
    echo "Parallels server stopped: $?"

Should the script first check to see if the file exists and then check if processes are
running that the start command would spawn before trying to stop it? It seems the
error is because the script does not find the file.

    Thanks

Please, could you send us md5 sum of Parallels Desktop package.
You can calculate md5 sum by issuing the following command in your Mac's Terminal:
    md5 Parallels-Desktop-5570-Mac-en.dmg

    md5

Here is the md5 for the download:
    MD5 (Parallels-Desktop-5570-Mac-en.dmg) = 12d615c4399147daee72bfde5f9f887a

Here is the dm5 for the dmg I modified with the supplied preflight script:
    MD5 (Parallels-Desktop-5570-Mac-en.dmg) = e0a483bfaeb7e0a6a43a0638f29a6d23

Ok. So the package is ok.
Lets try another approach. Can you try another package?

    Than post installation log please.

    5570 install/upgrade

    Hello,

Just to clarify, at this point I do not have Parallels installed so I am doing an install
not an upgrade any longer. I do still have my VMs and they are now in ~/Parallels/
and previously they were at ~/Library/Parallels. I downloaded the file, and ran the
installer contained in the file. It was run from ~/Documents. It did not work and
seems to be the same error. Please see install log below.

    Thanks

Could you please run following 2 commands from Terminal and post here results?

    $ sudo while ps axuww|grep -q '[\/]\(natd\|bootpd\|InternetSharing\)'; do ps axuww|awk '/[\/](natd|bootpd|InternetSharng)/ {print $2}'|xargs echo; sleep 1; done

    $ sudo while ps axuww|grep -q '[\/]\(natd\|bootpd\|InternetSharing\)'; do ps axuww|awk '/[\/](natd|bootpd|InternetSharng)/ {print $2}'|xargs kill -9; sleep 1; done

By the way, is there any chance that you're using Volumizer?

    5570 install/upgrade

Under Leopard the ps axuww is not handled well as it looks for ps -elf type format. It
appears the command wants to know if any of this stuff is running. The command below
    was run and the results:
    root# ps -ef|egrep -i 'Internet|bootpd|natd'|grep -v grep
    0 105 1 0 0:00.00 ?? 0:00.01 /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/vmnet-natd -c /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/vmnet8/nat.conf -m /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/vmnet8/nat.mac -d /var/run/vmnet-natd-vmnet8.pid vmnet8
    0 7722 1 0 0:00.01 ?? 0:00.02 /usr/libexec/InternetSharing

Then it looks like the 2nd command was to kill these processes. If InternetSharing is
killed it comes right back. In system preferences, Internet Sharing (along with all
other sharing) is off. I did kill the VMware process. I've never needed to do that in
the past to install or upgrade Parallels. How would you to proceed?

What do you mean by `ps axuww is not handled well' ?

    5570 upgrade

I was not clear. If I used the command as written, nothing came back. I changed
the spelling of InternetSharng to InternetSharing and put a - in front of axuww and
it failed. I ran it today with the changed spelling and it worked okay but still came
back with nothing on the first command.
Did you get the information you were looking for? What task should be done next?
    Thanks

    Installer trashed my install

I've suffered form the same installation hang on this beta, none of the suggestions in this thread have helped, and what's more it's hosed my existing install - Parallels refuses to start saying that it can't talk to one of its drivers:

"Parallels Desktop is unable to operate properly since it cannot communicate with one of its drivers. Try to restart the application to overcome this issue. If restart doesn't help, re-install Parallels Desktop. Note that Parallels drivers require a short time to be properly started and initialized. So you may need to wait a minute before trying to launch the application."

So I guess I need to hunt down my original installer...

I downloaded 5160, but that installer now acts the same way as 5570, just stuck in the same place. What can I do now?

A restart fixed it. Think I'll hold off this beta...
