I purchased a new full version (not OEM) of Windows XP Home with SP2. Parallels shows Build 5160, I updated it today. I created a VM, but when I try to install XP, I get an error message reading:

File acpi.sys caused an unexpected error (512) at line 5964 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c.

Setup failed, press any key to restart your computer

Every time I retry, same thing.

I bought my MacBook new in September. I am running OS X 10.4.10 with a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2 GB of RAM.

    Thanks.

Hi, not that I know much about your Windows XP installation setup, but it almost looks like the boot part of your XP Home CD is corrupted. Mostly because of the file it says is messed up being in the \base\boot folders.

thanks for the reply. i called microsoft with the same question (did I have a bad CD), but the moment they found out I was a Mac user, they told me they could not provide support for their software and I would need to contact a Mac Store.

Anyone out there know windows xp well enough to know if this is a bad copy I have?
