Administraor password requested to add additional programs in Debian Linux VM

    I recently had to re-download the Debian Linux 8 VM however when I go to add additional software using packages I am asked to enter the administrator password to authorize and it doesn't accept the password I use to log into the VM.

    I never had this issue previously, what has changed or what am I missing here?
