We just moved to Japan and had to change from our US Verizon Fios to ADSL through Heronet. I was previously able to transparently share my internet connection through the host OS on my iMac with Windows XP VM running in Parallels. Since changing to ADSL I cannot get a connection of anykind. I've read all the posts that have ADSL anywhere in the body of the message and the few suggestions made do not fix my situation (ie; enabling personal web sharing, changing sharing option to share builtin ethernet with ethernet adapter, etc). I'm not sure if I'm missing something but if anyone can walk a novice through a few steps or can offer some assistance I'd be grateful! Parallels without internet is pretty limited for my use so I'm eager to get back online. TIA!

Does your provider assign you one or two IP addresses? Most here in the states give you one for a home connection, and make you pay more for a second one.

If you only have one then I reccomend that you place a router between your computer and the DSL modem. Both Netgear and Linksys make quality routers.

Others have had success with using host-only networking with internet connection sharing as is discribed in the sticky port at the top of the forum.

Thanks so much. Just selecting host-only with my current configuration worked! I swear I tried that but did it after your suggestion and voila! BTW, my provider doesn't give ANY IP addresses, just 2 DNS addresses. It says provided by server and after the connection is made, I see 1 IP address which enters itself automatically.
