I have a Windows 10 VM that had been working fine. I even made a backup of the last known-good PVM folder. After upgrading I have yet to be able to fully boot to a user windows session. The welcome screen comes up and stays there displaying the welcome message after successfully logging in. I've waited a very long time and never seen the Windows desktop. It eventually seems to go black with a mouse cursor. I am able to send Ctrl-Alt-Delete and get the screen that allows me to shutdown, among other options.
Heres some info in case it helps:
- Host Computer: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) with 2.3 GHz i7, 16GB memory, NVIDIA graphics with 2GB, 500GB SSD.
- Host OS: MacOS 10.12.1 (Sierra)
- VM OS: Windows 10 Pro with the PVM stored on the primary SSD drive.
- VM Hardware: 2 processors, 4GB memory, 1GB graphics memory, 64GB HDD
- VM Options: Faster VM, Tune Windows for speed, Better performance
- VM Sharing: nothing is shared between host and VM
- Parallels Tools: Had been installed, but have not been able to upgrade
After the freeze/slowdown occurred I restored the backup PVM, but see the same exact issue. Since that had definitely worked with the previous Parallels version I have to blame the upgrade.
Shutdown eventually works, but takes many many minutes. That is also highly abnormal.
As a side note, my Linux VM continues to work fine.
How do I get this important VM working again?
Do I need to downgrade? If so, how?
Thanks in advance,
Steve
