    Hi,

I decided to finally upgrade to Parallels 4 today, which I now after only 1 hour already regret.
Since I upgraded I can no longer connect via VPN to my company.

I use Cisco VPN version 4.9.01 (0100) on my Air, so I only have wifi access.
I connect to the VPN on my Mac, as I need this connection to login to Windows.
It is as if the VPN connection isn't passed on from Mac to Windows.
(I can connect to my company's network on my Mac, so the VPN connection is working)

I have tried using shared, bridged and host-only networking.
Can someone please help? From tomorrow morning I won't be able to work because I cannot access my corporate Windows image.

    Thank you,
    Anne

    Hi,

Most likely it is the problem with DNS. We are aware about the problem and working on it.

This should be resolved by specifying the corporate DNS-server in Windows. To do so:

    1) VM should use the Shared Networking for your VM.

    2) While VPN is connected, run /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app and type in it the command "cat /etc/resolv.conf" (without quotes). You will get something like

    domain local.local
    nameserver 192.168.10.1
    nameserver 12.12.12.2

    2) Go (in Windows VM) to "Network connections" and right-click "Local Area Connection" -> Properties. You should see something like:

Select TCP/IP and click Properties -> Advanced -> DNS. Click Add and add your DNS-servers (which were displayed in first step) and server 10.211.55.1. Note: the 10.211.55.1 should be the last.

    This should solve the problem.

Forgot to mention, that there should be some way to logon to Windows without connecting to VPN to configure the DNS as in my post above.. Some Local Administrator login should always exist in Windows.

    Hi Elric,

thank you for your fast reply.
I will try it out tomorrow as I am not quite sure how I can logon to Windows without my credentials. (have to ask one of the admins in the office)

    /Anne

    Still no connection

    Hi Elric,

thank you for your quick reply.
I tried out what you suggested, but I still cannot log on to windows on the right domain.

When I log on locally as an administrator I can edit the DNS-servers and the LAN connection also says it connected.
However, when I log off as administrator locally and try to log in with my user on the company network I get the same error as yesterday.

Any other way to solve this or any news on when this issue will be solved?

Could you please logon to Windows locally as administrator and try to connect from Windows-side to some company's network site while VPN is established and DNS is configured in the way above?

If you can't connect, please create a support-ticket and post me it's number. It is slightly convinier to investigate the issue in support-system.

    How to create a ticket?

When logged in as an administrator I can connect - but the DNS settings are not saved, so when I log on with my normal user I don't have any connection to my company's network any longer.

How do I open a ticket?

Elric, I am also experiencing this same problem. I do not wish to highjack this post so if it is not helpful to resolving the posters problem please move it to its own post. With that said...

I too can connect to the www any site with VPN off from XP in Shared Networking Mode. With VPN on however, I can still connect to anything but the office. Private or Public IP are both broken. The one exception is that when I try to log into a hardware router, it prompts for Username and Pass but after entered explorer reports it is waiting for the server. I can clearly ping the office but am experiencing a DNS issue. I have tried it in bridged mode as well using shared networking adaptor with no luck. All other setting are defaulted on both Mac and XP side except for the solution presented above.

Tried everything possible for three days now with no luck.

BTW, my objective to to connect to the office via VPN on the mac side and have XP utilize that tunnel. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

yojibee, the ticket can be created at http://www.parallels.com/ru/support/desktop/request/

2Snaqqlet, Have you tried to configure the DNS as in the posting above (sorry, I see that you seems to have mentioned it, but I'd want be sure..) ? ( http://forum.parallels.com/showpost.php?p=363789&postcount=2 ); Please create a ticket if it won't help (and post here or via private message its number).. I'm particulary interested in whether only DNS is broken, or connecting to internal server via IP doesn't work also..

I have tried the method listed above. The result was positive to a point. As mentioned, this allowed me to ping and log into a router but only initially. My knowledge on this matter it limited but I feel it is reaching the 'office' but it being blocked from that point forward. I am also going to remove all firewalls and anti-attack features and see if some routers are seeing XP and Mac at once and thinking it is malicious attack. This would explain how some users experience no problems and other do.

If this does not work, I will start a ticket.
