I've just bought the update from 4 to 5 of parallels

I cannot install parallels tools under Fedora 13..... why?

The error log starts the problems with a sentence like:

"there is no X modules for this version of X server"

    What to do?

    Help

Does anyone from the Parallels team review these forums? I wish someone could throw us a bone on this issue. Is it internally known? Is it going to be addressed in the next patch? Is there a work around?

    Alberto-

I am also having the same problem, but I can't seem to find any answer out on the forums. I tried changing my ram size, and tried remounting the CD drive but to no avail.

I am posting so that maybe someone from the Parallels team will review this and post a solution because more than one person is having this problem.

I have been using PD versions 2 to 4 over several years and this issue of Parallels Desktop not supporting the latest Linux distros has occurred pretty regularly during this time. Look folks, this is the way things are:

Parallels Desktop is brilliant with Windows guests. It is also pretty good with mature versions of Linux BUT
Parallels Desktop just doesn't do the latest releases of Linux.
Parallels chooses to put its priorities elsewhere.

To be fair to Parallels they never claim that it will do the latest releases of Linux - read the fine print of the program specification. You have not been cheated.

However, this is not a real problem. If you want to run the latest Linux distro on your Mac (e.g. for evaluation or to build up your expertise) then simply use Virtualbox (http://www.virtualbox.org/). It isn't quite as polished as PD but it is pretty good now - although you do have to use a little command line stuff for installation, and you do have to read the manual carefully. VirtualBox is free and as it is out of the Open Source community (i.e Sun/Oracle) it has plenty of community support for Linux.

Do not waste your time posting messages in these forums - there are usually no magic fixes. Parallels will produce an update when it suits them and not before. Meanwile, use VirtualBox - get some useful work done - feel inner peace and serenity, rather than anger and frustration.

    Good luck. David.
