Agent in use by Controller on machine 10.10.1.183.

  1. Hi guys, i had a 2x gateway machine called 2xgate on 10.10.1.183. That machine died and was rebuilt on better hardware. It also ended up with a new IP address, 10.10.1.18. 10.10.1.183 no longer exists.

We have three terminal servers. When re-building 2xgate i used the 2x console > terminal servers to manage the agents on each of the TS machines. on 2 of the 3 TS machines i was able to uninstall the agent which had been talking to 10.10.1.183, reinstall it ok and they now say "Agent in use by Controller on machine 10.10.1.18". cool. ..But the third one, regardless of what i uninstall etc etc doggedly says "Agent in use by Controller on machine 10.10.1.183.".

    I have:
    a) Tried several times to uninstall / reinstall the agent using the 2x console.
    b) on the problem TS machine i have, deleted the HKLM\Software\2x key
    b) on the problem TS machine i have, deleted c:\program files\2x\*.*
    c) searched the registry on both machines for 10.10.1.183.
then d) again tried the install from the 2x console on 2xgate, no go

If i have to i can restore to a vanilla image for the TS machine, but i really don't want to have to do that.. this should just work. I dearly want to know where the TS machine is getting "10.10.1.183" from??

    any ideas?

    Kindly, Julius

  2. Ok, i've found the problem.

I could still ping 10.10.1.183.. it is now another TS and someone has installed 2x on it. it thought it owned 2xts3 and so i removed that TS from 2x on 10.10.1.183 OK. now 2xgate can talk to 2xts3 ok.

it seems strange that even though i did the uninstall from 2xgate and effectivley stole 2xts3 from 10.10.1.183, 2xts3 always thought it belonged to 10.10.1.183 until i also did the uninstall from that 10.10.1.183.

..if that makes any sense whatsoever ;)
