Whenever I start a Parallels VM (running Ubuntu Edgy) my SpeedTouch router shows that the Airport wireless interface of my MacBook gets a different IP address. At the same time, there is also an "unknown Ethernet device" shown by the router with the same IP (though without the active checkmark). This is indeed the IP shown in Ubuntu Edgy with the ifconfig command. Everything works fine, both in Ubuntu Edgy and in OS X. When I shut the Parallels VM down, the router shows that the Airport wireless interface reverts to its previous IP. My Parallels network settings: Bridged Ethernet, Default Adapter. My question: is this change in IP address by design or due to some configuration error on my part? Should I do something with Shared Networking in OS X Preferences? Or leave well enough alone...
That is the typical behavior, at least it does the same thing here. If it did not change it would be in conflict with the Mac. The router, however, and the Mac should remain the same. ajm
