I have recently had a lot of issues with Avira antivirus for Mac and Parallels, with the virtual machine freezing on startup. I have got fed up with continually switching off the real-time protection to get the Windows 10 VM to load and after a particularly nasty experience where I had to reboot into Safe Mode to get my Mac back I have uninstalled Avira. Does anyone know of a good, free Antivirus for the Mac that will play nicely with Parallels?

  3. Hello JohnM56. We do not have any specific recommendations. The best course of action in this scenario would be to try adding Parallels Desktop/Windows virtual machine in the antivirus exception list (refer to this article as an example).

You can let us know if the issue persists even after following the steps in the article.

I'm having a similar problem. I ran Parallels with no issues until I installed Trend Micro (required for work). Now I get a daily 'freeze' when I start my VM for the first time.

When contacted, Trend Micro was willing to work with me to find the solution, but Parallels just said "oh, it's not compatible" and offered no assistance whatsoever.

I'm >this close< to ending my 6 years of Parallels and moving back to Fusion.

  7. Hi Schnautz. Please try adding Parallels Desktop and the Windows virtual machine to the antivirus exception list and check if it works fine.
