I find myself in the awkward position of having purchased a grotesquely expensive Windows-only application (one of those very field-specific nightmares) only to discover it's installer adamantly refuses to install on a virtual machine. This is deliberate on the part of the manufacturer, and despite not advertising the fact, they aren't interested in either refunding my money or changing their policy.

I now loathe them and will go to any length to subvert their OS fascism, short of boot camp or buying a Windows computer.

I've Mac expertise and know very little about Windows. Any suggestions?

    Thanks much,
    Bryan

Your best bet is bootcamp, really, install the app while in bootcamp and then you can use your bootcamp under Parallels or even import it.

PM me the name of the app.

Alas the fools responsibility for the "PAI Software Portfolio" have been fairly thorough in implementing their anti-virtual machine stance. The install-under-boot-camp, import-into-Parallels approach failed. The app still detects the virtual machine and refuses to run under it.

I can't imagine the motivation behind this. It's truly asinine.

It is... They have no reason to create that sort of limitation, it's not like they sell Windows computers anyway. Does the program require an hardware dongle to work?

I suspect that they are afraid people would clone virtual machines to run their program without paying, but there are ways to deal with that, like MS Windows and Office activation procedures.
