Application not Responding after Installing version 5

Trying to install version 5 has been a nightmare. I have been using version 4 running Snow Leopard 10.6.1 on a MacBook Pro. The installation goes fine. I have activated and registered v5. When I open v5 all is well until I select my Windows XP virtual disk then the application timer starts but soon freezes forever with the black screen and then the "application is unresponsive" and I have to force quit. I am only running 1 CPU and I have turned off the floppy disk in the configuration. I have uninstalled and reinstalled too many times to count. Always the same problem.

I am easily able to reinstall version 4 and it works no problems. However, I have paid for the version 5 upgrade and would like to enjoy the speed enhancements.

Do other people have the same problem? I see many BSOD posts but I don't get the BSOD I only get the black screen of death with the name of my windows XP virtual disk and a frozen spinning disk.
