I'm running Parallels Desktop on Mac OS X, 10.4.11 and experienced a problem where the VM would not start. While it's going through its paces, I get a black screen followed by the windows start up screen and then a blue screen (only a split second though) and It has an error code stating: "Stop c000135 unable to locate component. The application has failed to start because winsrv was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem" That's the best I could get after trying to read it 100 times. I went to Parallels support and installed build 5638. Still not working. Parallels support has been pretty jammed up all day and I need to get this resolved. I have the XP disk and key, but fear losing any data on my virtual machine. Can anyone provide assistance? I'm a rookie when it comes to the Mac and Parallels technology and would greatly appreciate any assistance that can be offered.
According to the Microsoft knowledgebase the issue is caused by incompatibility of T.V. Media and Windows SP2. You can check for more information here. Several simple ways you can also try to fix this: 1. Before doing anything, back up your virtual machine. Should be located in /Users/<username>/Documents/Parallels/<VM_name>/winxp.hdd Just copy the .hdd file to some other place. 2. Disable automatic restart on system failure. Try loading the last good configuration. For that, hit F8 (Fn+F8) in order to get the menu with options. 3. If the above won't work, you would need to remove Windows XP Service Pack 2 from your computer using the recovery console. To get to the recovery console, you can follow steps 1-2-3 (skip 4) and 5 from this article. Once you get to the console, follow the corresponding Microsoft article. In any case, do not forget to make a backup of the virtual machine.
