Mac 10.6.8; Parallels 8.0.18608; Windows XP Pro SP2. Currently, I'm backing up both Mac data (SuperDuper & Time Machine) and Windows clones onto a partitioned 3 TB hard drive via firewire 800 (plus I have full backups on a small 1TB drive stored in a safety deposit box). I have an extra WD 1TB drive which I'd like to use ONLY for backing up Windows data files via USB. This would be for those times I need to be able to get to file without the rigamarole of opening a clone. My question: how do I do this with the guest vm? I can't see a way without involving Parallels which means I would need the drive formatted for a Mac. Or, do I need to format the drive back to FAT? I know it's going to be agonizingly slow via USB. Second question: I'm trying to work out Cloud backup procedures. Research indicates that I have to go with two different services to access Amazon S3 because only one really does the Mac well (Arq); the other would be for the Windows guest (Cloudberry). One vendor told me they didn't back up clones. I don't need the clones backed up necessarily; it's the critical files I may need to access. However, the data currently is stored on Mac-formatted drives. Cloud vendors don't seem to understand my questions or I can't find a straightforward answer. All my "real" work is done on the Windows vm: word processing, spreadsheets, databases, very complicated genealogical database software (TMG), etc. This is the work I cannot afford to lose and which I might need to recover. I do all my image processing on the Mac side as well as email/internet so, obviously, I need to back it up as well. I'd really appreciate any advice or warnings! Regards, TobyT
