Hi, I am running a recent iMac with the current Parallels Desktop software, but I am having a problem that I cannot seem to fix and I wondered if anyone can help. I have the same issue running my Bluray Burner from both Windows 7, as well as Windows 8.1 (The Preview that recently was removed, so has since been deleted). When I turn on the drive a message appears asking if I would like to use the device on Mac or Windows. When I use it on the Mac, everything works fine. But when I use the Windows section, it sees the disc, but doesn't let me have access to it, as if I haven't put a disc in at all, when I change any of the settings I just get a message which won't let me get the drive back unless I turn it off, which says.. "Unable to connect to CD/DVD1 ... A file or device required for the operation of CD/DVD1 does not exist or is used by another process, or you have no permission to access it, the Virtual Machine will continue running but the device will be disconnected" I have had a good google to get an answer and have tried the following that I have found but not got it to work... May I add when I first had Parallels, it used to work so it must be something that has been changed since... But this is what I have tried so far. (1) Going to the Configuration settings in my Parallels machine, deleting the drive and then re-adding it (2) Going to the same place and selecting Default CD/DVD (my iMac has no internal CD drive) (3) I read someone else in the forums suggest going into Regedit.exe on Windows and change a couple of lines... however, even though I found the location of the registry to change, it mentioned deleting Upper and Lower setting.. neither of which were in that location anyway, so it remained unchanged. (4) Going to control panel to see if the device is listed and update the drivers... The drive is listed there, but it will not let me delete or update the driver, says its all ok. I'm wondering if there is a Permission setting I need to change in windows, but I rarely use it, and need to use this for a single application and I am unsure what to do. Please could anyone think of any suggestions that I might be able to do... It seems to be driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.
Hi Lewdsnarler, - Please (re)install Parallels Tools as suggested at http://kb.parallels.com/4841 - And follow the steps suggested at http://kb.parallels.com/112209 Thanks, Abdul
Abdul, Just tried exactly what you said, I previously tried removing Parallels Tools but forgot to turn off Antivirus... After trying it this time, my drive is still doing the same, it detects the Bluray movie in the drive, but will not allow me access. I'm beginning to wonder if there is an issue with the drive itself, It is an LG BD-R Burner that I have put in a USB case I picked up online... I never had any previous issues but am wondering if the USB casing may be causing me the problems due to incompatibility.. have you had problems with this before?
