I am running a iMac 9.1, Core 2 Duo, 3.06 Ghz and 4GB of ram.

    My current config is
    1. Optimized for virtual machine
    2. Mem allocation 2876 or 8192
    3. Video to 16MB

And it's slow as hell. Both the Guest OS and the Host OS are slow when the Guest is running.

Any suggestions on a better config?

    Hello KevinW,

Please note that memory plays a big part in the virtual machine performance.

Please check these instructions for the optimized settings for a virtual machine:

    1. Not more than 50% of memory than on Host, so 1.5 GB for Windows XP should be OK, if you are having 4GB (usually under Configure -> Memory).
    2. Try to set anti virus settings for not to high for heuristic scan (details will vary for various anti virus so contacting vendor support is Ok).
    3. Try to set Video Memory to 256 MB to get good sharp graphics. (usually under Configure -> Video).
    4. Also check whether Enable 3D Acceleration is checked under Video.
    5. Also under Configure -> Smartmount, disable the feature.

    Thank you.
