Hi, I have upgraded to Leopard and upgraded to Parallels 3.0 and I cannot get 2 different copies of Windows to boot to set up the virtual machine. I continually get the following message: I have tried with a Windows CD-ROM and from an .iso and still get the same thing. I also tried using the original 3.0 build and now 5582. I really need to get this running so I can test my websites in IE (ugh). Can anyone help me?
I spent many hours with this problem too and finally found this post from smelvis on this board: 1) Found Knowledge base article http://kb.parallels.com/entry/30/458/ 2) Before, I tried installing from Disk Image using "Express" install. Article suggested using "Typical" install. That seemed to do the trick. XP is now up and (mostly) running.
Non-bootable disk I actually had our IT department send us two copies of XP because I kept getting this error. Turns out, the CDs they sent weren't bootable. Don't worry though, you can follow "Bart's way to create bootable CD-Roms" and create a bootable install CD of Windows XP. Trick is, you need a PC, which I luckily did have. Here's a link: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#wxp Good luck, Sandro
This fixed it for me I had to Disconnected the 'unattended.fdd' from the Devices > Floppy Disk menu. XP got hung on that, like when users used to leave a floppy in the drive with no OS on it - How retro!
Any more info? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I have been having the same problem and have spent ALL DAY trying to fix it. I have done everything recommended here to no avail. I updated parallels to BUILD 5608. Are there any other updates for this? Thanks!
hi DesiT, the latest build 5626 for Parallels Desktop 3 can be found here: http://kb.parallels.com/5802 Can you give more details on the issue, so that we could provide you with better answer? Exact error message, or screenshot of it.
Hi, Thanks for the link. I updated to the latest build I saw on the webpage, 5638, but still have the same problem. I start the virtual machine and go through the installation process, enter my xp product key and insert the installation cd. THen I get the following message: Parallels(R) VGA-Compatible BIOS Version 2.02 Parallels(R) 3.0 build 5626 (C) 2005-2008 Parallels Software International Inc. All Rights REserved 640KB Base Memory 524288 KB Extended Memory Boot from CD/DVD-ROM drive... failed Boot from hard drive... failed Boot from floppy drive... Non-System disk or disk error Replace and press any key when ready _ This also happens when choose ISO image and browse to the ISO image I created of the cd in disk utility. Other info: I am running an iMac, OS 10.5.8 with 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 800 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM memory. Thanks!!!
hello DesiT, are you sure the installation media is bootable? Have you tried to create ISO image of it and install OS from image? By the way, what OS you are trying to install in Parallels Desktop 3 virtual machine?
