Build 1898 ... Crash corrupted virtual disk!

OK .. I had a very weird crash upon resuming parallels from suspend.
After this crash, parallels refused to quit so I had to reboot (the process was in the E state according to ps in terminal, and kill -9 wouldn't kill it). After restarting, I found parallels would not boot my xp machine. It says the disk is "not a valid virtual image file!" I put alot of work into setting this thing up. What happened?

What should I do? I need to recover this disk. Anyone?

If you can't restore a backup, you might create a new VM, install a guest OS, and then attach the old .hdd as a second disk on the new VM. If that doesn't work, I'd chalk it up to education. Backups are a good thing. I create one whenever I've done enough work that I don't want to do it again.

FWIW, that sort of thing has happened to me, and I know what it feels like.

Hmm ... I had not done much work on the image except installing windows and setting things up just right. There were no document files there, but a lot of time put in.
This worries me: Is parallels not stable enough that I have to constantly be backing up the entire disk image? This should not be needed IMHO. Corruption in some files is one thing, but total destruction of the entire image because of a parallels crash seems unacceptable.

I've been using Parallels regularly for several months, and had some problems with beta code (duh) but not with the release version. The only times I've lost VM disks is with beta compressor, and by installing things in the VM I later regretted. The GA compressor works fine. Since I do regular backups, I haven't lost any real work. A backup before trying something new seems like a no-brainer. I do this with Wintel boxen too.

So I guess the bottom line is that for me, the GA release has been stable.

If you have a core 2 duo, though, you need the lastest beta.
