I am making the grating transition from my beloved Titanium Powerbook to a new (to me) MacBook Pro. I used Parallels Transporter to import my VirtualPC 7 Windows XP machine and, generally speaking, everything works great. After getting Windows working on the new MacBook (which was important and I assumed -- incorrectly -- would be extremely troublesome), I then used the OSX Migration assistant to import everything else. In so doing, Migration Assistant created a new user -- I thus ended up with Parallels/Windows under one user account, and everything else under another.

I copied the Parallels disk image from the "old" user account to the "new" user account and everything seems to work fine, but I have a concern about the "[C]" drive that appears on the Mac desktop.

I seem to recall under the "old" account (that is, the account under which I imported the old VirtualPC 7 Windows XP machine) that the "[C]" drive icon appeared on the desktop regardless of whether or not the virtual machine was running -- which was very handy. However, under the "new" account, the "[C]" drive disappears when the virtual machine is not running (that is, it disappears when the virtual machine is paused, suspended, etc., etc.). I can no longer access the virtual machine under the "old" account (which is not a problem, as I intend to delete the account) so I cannot test my recollection.

Is this the way that the "[C]" drive is supposed to work (and thus my recollection is faulty) or is there a way to make the "[C]" drive present on the desktop at all times regardless of whether or not the virtual machine is running?

Thanks in advance for any help, and apologies for such a lengthy post -- I don't know what is important and what is not, so I've puked out the whole story.

    Resolved

I have confirmed (with an Apple Genius) that the "[C]" image is only visible when the virtual machine is running.
