I currently have a Windows 2003 Small Business Server used mainly for file sharing and exchange server, for a small office (less than 10users) I'd like to put this to a virtual machine on my iMac. I'm closing the business and moving on to something else, so this will become my personal/family server. Can the standard Parallels Desktop for Mac support this? the docs I've found said windows server 2003 or 2008 are supported, but then there's all the server versions of parallels. If I decide to go with a new os for my server, is Windows 2011 Small Business Server supported? thanks, Michael PS, I'd like to buy a Mac Mini to have as my server some day.
Supported Guests are here: http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/system-requirements/ If you want to turn it into your personal server, why not just buy a fairly unexpensive PC in a small form factor and install the server there (and transferring the license), that way you don't have the overhead of OS X?
The iMac I have could easily handle the load, already has a parallels 6 license, and I think it would be easier to administer, rather than having it on another box located somewhere else in the house, like the basement, and then using remote desktop on. Also, I like the idea of a completely virtual server, that I can save copies of. I'd keep the current box that it's on, but it is about 7 years old, and is starting to have some hardware memory failure. Michael
